Jean-Pierre Garnier, Ph.D.
Chairman
Jean-Pierre Garnier is currently Operating Partner at Advent International (Private Equity). From 2008 to 2010 he was the CEO of Pierre Fabre SA (Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics). Prior to this, he was CEO of SmithKline Beecham and he assumed the role of CEO of GlaxoSmithKline from 2001 to 2008 after the merger of Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham. From 1983 to 2011, he served in a variety of executive positions at Schering Plough and subsequently at Smithkline Beecham. JP Garnier is a board member at United Technology Corp., Renault SA, The Paul Newman Foundation, and Chairman of the board at Normoxys Corp. (Biotechnology). In 2007 he was promoted from Chevalier to Officier de la Légion d'Honneur and was made a Knight Commander of the British Empire in 2009; JP Garnier holds an MBA from Stanford University and a PhD From Université Louis Pasteur (France). Jean-Pierre Garnier is Chairman of the Board of Actelion and represents the Fund for Strategic Investment at the Board of Directors of Cerenis Therapeutics.
Denis Lucquin
Managing Partner & Chairman, Sofinnova Partners
Mr. Lucquin joined Sofinnova in 1991. He is a graduate in engineering from École Polytechnique and École du Génie Rural des Eaux et Forêts. Denis began his career in academic research. For five years, he was in charge of the technology transfer department at the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA), France's agricultural research institute. In 1989, he joined the venture capital industry as director of investments at Innolion (Crédit Lyonnais). He carried out many investments in France and other European countries in companies such as Nicox, Exonhit, IDM, Neurotech, Innate Pharma, Neuro 3D, Oxford Glycosciences, Oxford Molecular, PPL Therapeutics, Crop Design, Metris Therapeutics, Cerenis, Ablynx, Novexel and Noxxon. He sits on the board of many of these companies. Denis is also a founder of Association France Biotech.
Johan Christenson, M.D., Ph.D.
Senior Partner, HealthCap
Dr. Christenson joined Odlander Fredrikson, the exclusive investments advisory group of HealthCap, in 2001. Previously he was healthcare portfolio adviser for SEB Företagsinvest, the venture capital arm of SEB. He has served as project director at Astra Pain Control, and was Global Product Director and a member of the global therapy area management team Pain & Inflammation at AstraZeneca. Dr. Christenson received a Ph.D. in basic neuroscience from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and underwent four years of clinical specialist training in pediatrics and pediatric neurology. He is the author of 17 scientific articles and a frequently invited guest lecturer. Dr. Christenson served as assistant dean of the Karolinska Institutet graduate school for two years.
Alexandra Goll, Ph.D.

Dr. Goll joined TVM Capital in early 1998, and has since been responsible for 10 TVM Capital life sciences investments. She was an initial investor in Actelion and a Series B lead investor of Idenix Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Goll was a member of the Idenix board of directors until the sale of 51% of the company to Novartis in May 2003. Currently, Dr. Goll serves on the board of directors of Addex Pharmaceuticals, Biovertis AG, Cerenis Therapeutics, Newron Pharmaceuticals, Pharmasset, and Wilex AG. She also represents the interests of TVM Capital with Ark Therapeutics, GPC Biotech AG and MediGene AG. Prior to her affiliation with TVM Capital, Dr. Goll was the Global Business Leader for HIV and CMV, and was responsible for strategic marketing and business development for Virology at Roche in Basel. At Roche Dr. Goll had been involved in clinical development and managing commercialization strategies of products such as Neupogen®, Hivid®, Cymevene® and Valcyte®. Dr. Goll holds a degree in pharmacy from the Free University of Berlin, and wrote her doctoral dissertation in natural sciences at Philipps University of Marburg.
Ekaterina Smirnyagina, Ph.D.
Venture Partner, Alta Partners
Dr. Smirnyagina joined Alta in 2002 and focuses on European investment opportunities. She currently represents Alta on the board of directors of Kiadis and Innate Pharma. Previously she worked in business development and finance at Genset, a French genomics-based biotechnology company, where she negotiated a number of licensing agreements and strategic partnerships. Prior to Genset, she was a manager with the Mitchell Madison Group, a global management-consulting firm, from 1997 to 2000. Dr. Smirnyagina holds a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BS in biochemistry (high honors) from Moscow University in Russia. Dr. Smirnyagina completed her scientific training as a postdoctoral fellow in the department of microbiology and immunology at the Stanford University School of Medicine. She has co-authored numerous scientific papers.
Richard Pasternak, M.D.
Non Executive Director
Dr. Pasternak has had a long-standing research interest in lipid disorders and atherosclerosis, as well as prevention and patterns of practice and disease management. Previously, he was Vice President, Head of Cardiovascular Clinical Research and Head of Global Scientific Affairs and Scientific Leadership at Merck & Co from 2004 and 2010. Prior to this, he was Director of Preventive Cardiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation at Massachusetts General Hospital from 1992 to 2004, and he was Associate Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School.
Dr Pasternak has authored more than 100 publications and has spoken widely on the development of drugs for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, and about how academia and industry can better collaborate in biomedical research. He is currently a faculty member of the Weill Cornell School of Medicine, and serves on the Boards of the Founder’s Affiliate of the American Heart Association, the Galien Foundation, and Essentialis Therapeutics.
Jean-Louis Dasseux, Ph.D., M.B.A.
President and CEO, Cerenis Therapeutics
Dr. Dasseux is a co-founder of Cerenis and is one of the world’s leading experts in lipid metabolism and lipid-protein interaction. Dr. Dasseux is the inventor of a high-capacity reverse lipid transport peptide (ETC-642) and a series of small molecule compounds that raise HDL levels. Dr. Dasseux was formerly vice president of chemistry and technology and chair of the ETC-642 development team at Esperion Therapeutics that led to the acquisition of the company by Pfizer. Before joining Esperion, he was director of research for the French pharmaceutical company Fournier, where he established and managed its research center in Heidelberg, Germany.
